Jim offers free consultations to all clients with no obligation or expectation of continuing. This session may help you decide if counseling with Jim is a good fit for you. It also gives me an opportunity to briefly assess if I think it is a good match. During the consultation, I can an overview of the services offered, and if nothing else provide some recommendations or referrals to get help/support in the community.
This is also when we review the financial commitment needed to start services. Our fees are very reasonable and we are one of the contracted providers with Arizona Office of Problem Gambling. This office provides support which can substantially lower the cost of counseling.
Please don't let financial concerns stop you from getting the help you may need. When needed we provide services regardless of ability to pay. Jim does NOT turn people away who need help and are willing to do the work associated with making life changes.
Jim uses an eclectic blend of many counseling techniques from CBT to human needs counseling. The goal is improved insight into the problematic behaviors, and to identify specific behaviors to start doing to turn things around. We often see change within a few sessions.
Jim provides both individual and family counseling. Addiction is a family disease that affects the WHOLE family. Counseling is usually more effective when there is help for the people who have been affected by the addiction.
Even when the person gambling issue does not recognize the problem, providing counseling support to the persons affected can be very helpful. This may lead to an actual intervention where we use specific structured techniques to help the problem gambler see the problem and become willing to get help. It is important to recognize that even if an intervention does not result in that, the person affected can often find more peace and ease in their life.
